How to Apply for MyRetiree Plan Coverage

Applying for MyRetiree Plan coverage is straightforward—but timing matters. As a retiring or retired Alberta education employee, you can apply for MyRetiree Plan at any time (for the first time) without completing a medical questionnaire.

This page walks you through eligibility, the application process, and what to expect after you apply.

Who Can Apply?

MyRetiree Plan coverage is available to:
i

At least 50 years of age at the time of retirement

ii

Retired employees of Alberta school boards, charter schools, and accredited private schools

iii

Retired employees of post-secondary institutions participating in ASEBP

iv

Spouses and eligible dependents of retired members

v

Surviving spouses of deceased members

* Even if you are still employable and not drawing on a pension, as long as you meet the above criteria, you can still apply for this plan.

No Enrollment Window. No Medical Questionnaire.

As a retiring or retired Alberta education employee, you can enroll in MyRetiree Plan at any time without needing to complete a medical questionnaire when applying for initial coverage.

Before You Apply

Gather the following information to complete your application:

Personal information

  • ASEBP ID
  • Personal email address

Employment information

  • Name of your employer (school board, institution)
  • Your retirement date
  • Last day of active ASEBP coverage (if applicable)

Banking information

  • Bank account details for pre-authorized premium payments
  • Void cheque or direct deposit form

Dependant information (if adding family members)

  • Spouse's date of birth
  • Dependant children's dates of birth

How to Apply

  • Get a Quote — Use our quote tool to see your premium costs for Enhanced or Core coverage
  • Complete the Application — Fill out the online enrollment form with your personal, employment, and banking information
  • Select Your Coverage — Choose Enhanced or Core coverage for yourself and any dependents
  • Submit and Confirm — Review your application and submit. You'll receive a confirmation email within 2 business days.

Consultations are available by phone, video call, or in person at our Edmonton office.

If you prefer a paper application:

  1. Download the MyRetiree Plan Application Form 
  2. Complete all sections and sign where indicated
  3. Attach a void cheque or direct deposit form
  4. Mail to:

  5. Email (a digital copy) to: benefits@asebp.ca
  6. Fax to: 780-438-5304

Paper applications typically take 5-7 business days to process after receipt.

If you send your application through the Benefits email (benefits@asepb.ca), you will receive a confirmation email acknowledging receipt right away.

After that, you will receive an acknowledgement letter or an approval letter within 5 business days of ASEBP receiving your application. If any information is missing from your application, you will receive a notice.

Frequently asked questions

Can I apply before I officially retire?
Yes. You can submit your application up to 30 days before your retirement date. Your coverage will begin the first of the month following your retirement or the first of the month following your application—whichever is later.
