The coverage level for many prescription drugs is based on the generic alternative—the lowest cost brand or generic drug alternative to what was prescribed by your health care provider. The generic alternative must have the same dosage, strength, delivery method (e.g. oral, intravenous, etc.), quality, performance and intended use as what you were prescribed.
If you choose to fill the prescription, which is not the lowest-cost brand or generic drug alternative, this may result in out-of-pocket expenses for you.
